Chinese Restaurants in Raleigh NC

There are several types of Chinese Restaurants in Raleigh ranging Dine-in type, Buffet style, contemporary Chinese-American and Dim Sum.

Buffet Style

One of the most popular styles of dining in the South is Buffet Style. For Chinese Restaurants, this usually covers all kinds of Chinese dishes, seafood, shrimp (prepared in different style), (crab pays extra), Sushi, dessert. Some even offers Mongolian grill with the Buffet. The following are some buffet places in Raleigh area.

Crystal Palace

Raleigh, NC 27604-3486
(919)878-9699
This place used to be the best of Chinese Buffet many years ago because they serve Crab legs and other fresh food. I went there recently and the food has changed somewhat. The quality is lower and there were mainly pork meat and some other lower price ingredients.

World Super Buffet

Holly Springs, NC 27540

World Super Buffet offers great selection of food which is always fresh. The price is very very reasonable ($5.00 or so for lunch) and the buffet bar is well stocked with all kinds of selection including seafood and Sushi. It is one of the best quality and value in this area

Contemporary Chinese-American

Neo-China – See information below. Neo-China serves serveral oriental food including Chinese, Thai and some Sushi. The food is decent and the price is average.

PF Chang - Not a locally own restaurant but certainly worth mentioning that we have few in the area. The food is consistently good and they were the pioneer of the lettuce wedge appetizer that many other places have borrowed the recipe from. What I also like about PF Chang is that once in a while, the waitress bring out extra dishes for you to try “on the house”, just to promote their new dishes. I have never tried any dishes that I do not like.

Crabtree Valley Mall
4325 Glenwood Ave. #2089
Raleigh, NC 27612
(919) 787-7754

Renaissance Center at Southpoint
6801 Fayetteville Rd.
Durham, NC 27713
(919) 294-3131

PeiWei - Pei Wei is a fast food version division of PF Chang. You order food and sit down and the waitors/waitress will bring food to your table. Delicious and good price. The food is contemporary Chinese-American but they never disappoint anyone.

Dine-In

1) C & T Wok ($-$$$) 130 Morrisville Square Way, Morrisville, NC 27560 (919)467-8860. One of the best Sichuan Style Chinese in a small strip mall. You can order family style dishes also.

2) 35 Chinese Restaurant ($$) 1135 Kildaire Farm Rd. Cary NC 27511 (919)467-4262. My Chinese friend told me that this is one of the most authentic Chinese place he can find in the Triangle area. No website available.

3) Tai Pei Cafe – The owner of Tai-Pei Cafe used to own “Mama Wok” in Preston, Cary. If you have been to Mama Wok before, you will know that even though the place did not invest much in decoration, but the food is definitely Gourmet Grade. I know a friend who was attending a cookng school and their field trip was to go to Mama Wok to study how a good Chinese should taste like. Mama Wok closed down 3-4 years ago and the owner went back to Their hometown. Now they are back to the US, but the name Mama Wok has been taken by another restaurant in Durham, so they named it “Taipei Cafe” but the food is still as delicious as ever and the price is very reasonable. Definitely good cooking skill and dishes. A word of caution that if you are not familiar with Taiwanese food, you may not appreciate the dishes as much, so pick something that is closer to what you are familiar with and you will enjoy it.

Dim-Sum

Dim Sum is a Hong Kong style dishes where they push the carts of different small dishes to your table and you pick and choose what you like. The dishes range from $2.50 – $7.00 but you need to eat several of them to be full. Aside from the taste, Dim-Sum style is fun because you get to pick what you want without having to wait.

1) Neo-China – Neo-China is a family owned restaurant and serve Chinese food and Thai. The food is good and the price is average. There are 2 locations for Neo-China

100 Maynard Crossing Ct.,
Cary, NC 27615

Dim-Sum is served on Sat – Sun only.

2) Dim Sum House – Dim Sum House is a newly open restaurant (in 2010) serving Dim-Sum as their specialty. On the weekend, you can get the full Dim-Sum experience with the servers pushing the carts to serve you at your desk, on regular days, however, you need to order from the menu (to keep food fresh they only cook to order as opposed to cooking a large quantity on the carts). Very good food, nice and clean place. You can expect to pay about $15.00 per person for Dim Sum style dining.
