  • Apartments (rental) – available throughout areas especially in Raleigh and RTP. Many

    of the apartments in this area have swimming pools, clubhouse and fitness center. Most people who are new to the area choose this option in order to learn what area. Sometimes rentals are listed under community bulletins.

  • Condominium (own)- the owner of the condominium owns the interior of the unit only but not the land. Condominium is generally lower in purchase price which is the trade off for higher monthly maintenance fee. Condominium does not have that good an appreciation as single family home and it is harder to sell as the investment benefit is less than owning a home. In addition, some condominium requires approval of the board for each new owner.
  • Town Home (own)- the owner of the town home owns the interior and the land on
    Townhomes

    Townhomes are mostly attached homes

    which the unit is situated on. The home owner’s association takes care of the exterior of the town home community which generally include termite inspection, painting, roof, landscape. Townhome’s monthly due is typically less than that of condominium and has larger square footage per unit. Townhomes attract homeowners who enjoy living in a house but do not like to deal with yard maintenance and the exterior maintenance of the houses.Rental Home – there are many single family home available for rent. You can find rental home on craigslist.org or Block and Associates rental.

  • Senior Accommodation. There are several subdivisions that are designed only for senior 55+. They provide convenience and amenities for seniors.
  • Single Family Home Mostly arranged in subdivision style with Covenant and home owners association. Houses range anywhere from $100,000 to million dollar estates.
  • Housing subdivisions with Golf Course – Golf is very popular in the area so few housing subdivisions include golf course and country club inside with additional annual membership fees. Prestonwood (in Cary) is a well known one as well as the Wakefield Plantation (N. Raleigh)

Durham has the richest history in the Triangle. It was known originally as the tobacco town. Now is has acquired a new identiry of “City of medicine USA” due to the famous Duke Hospital. However, housing-wise there are a mixture of good and bad neighborhood in Durham, where crimes are known to be high. Property tax is also higher than in Wake county.

Chapel-Hillis known to be the most affluent area among the 3 cities in the Triangle. Chapel-Hill is known to be home of famous politicians and wealthy professionals. School system in Chapel-Hill is considered to be the best in the Triangle. historic homes. There are mixtures of good and bad neighborhood in downtown area so you need to look consider the specific neighborhood which the house is located.Another affluent areas to live is North Raleigh.

North Raleigh and West Raleigh are extensions of downtown Raleigh. Homes are newer and most have nice land and yard. It is known to have good and safe neighborhood and professional people. Houses along I-540 are particular desirable since residents can enjoy the benefit of living in North Raleigh yet having the convenient access to RTP, where major employers of Triangle are located.

Garner

Garner is an area East of Raleigh. This area has mix of less affluent neighborhood. In general East and South Raleigh are less affluent than the other part of Raleigh.

Wake Forest is another neighborhood north of Raleigh where there are larger and expensive homes with a lot of lands. There are some homes with access to golf course.

Cary whose nickname is “Concentrated Area of Relocated Yankees” is a little nice town where the neighborhood is somewhat safe and have convenient access to the mall and stores. “Preston” is an older prestigious neighborhood within Cary with homes with the access to the golf course within the subdivision. Cary has a lot of access to park and greenway. It is another desirable area most people prefer to live in because of it’s proximity to RTP, downtown Raleigh and the RDU airport.

Morrisville is an up and coming area adjacent to RTP. This area is a pretty new development since housing development around RTP was not allowed up until about 15 years ago. Now Morrisville is fully developed and has access to it’s own Library, new townhall, grocery stores. It is a desirable area to live because of the proximity to RTP and neighborhoods generally consists of professionals who work in the RTP area. Morrisville’s drawback is the lack of land per house due to the high cost of land near RTP.

Apex is another nice town near RTP where most houses still have nice yard and land. It is a little bit south of RTP, but residents can get to RTP within 15 min through Highway 55. Apex has a quaint little downtown area.Holly Springs is furthur south from Apex. This is another area where those who desire to have a lot of land consider to live with the tradeoff of being a little further away from RTP but home prices are less expensive than those areas closer to RTP.

Fuquay-Varina Another small town south of Apex. Fuquay-Varina has a small nice downtown area. Housings are less expensive because of the distance away from RTP.
