North Raleigh – expansion of people living in Raleigh and work in Raleigh. Housing are older and more established. It is considered an affluent area and good neighborhood in the area.
The following are the towns within approximately one hour commute. Cary, Apex and Morrisville are closest to the Raleigh and RTP. The rest of the towns are closer away. In terms of those towns are less expensive and can afford more land. But it is also true that there are less things to do. Clayton Wendell Knightdale Zebulon Garner Wake Forest Holly Spring Fuquay-Varina.
Cary – whose nick name is “Concentrated Area of the Relocated Yankees”, is a town adjacent to RTP and a lot of relocated Northerners live here because it is close to Research Triangle Park, which hosts the largest Research and Development of similar companies and this is where you can find most of the jobs. Cary is the home of SAS, the largest privately owned company in business Statistics who was voted the best employers of the year many times. The city is well planned and mostly owned by Mr. Jim Goodnight. There are a lot of trees and land still. But houses are older. Cary has almost reached it’s limit in building new homes.
Apex – is a town close to Cary but a little further into the south. Since housing development in Cary almost reaches it’s limits, Apex is the next natural area to expand to. In Apex, it is easier for people to buy homes and with some land. Extension of Cary, Down south. Suitable for people desire close commute to RTP. Has a lot of lands and I-540 has a plan to build to this area but may become toll road. Apex has done a great job in upgrading their downtown and has been successful in creating a small town atmosphere where people enjoy walking and shopping in downtown.
Morrisville – is a small up-coming town closest possible to Research Triangle Park. Up til 15 years ago, this land was not given permit to build houses. So when housing was allowed, it is booming up like mushrooms because the commute to RTP is so close. I bought my first home here 10 years ago. At that time there was no grocery store here yet. Now there is a lot of stores and restaurants around, but most open only for lunch for those working in RTP. Housing here is expensive and consists of larger homes with less land (developers try to make money out of as many homes as possible within the limited space). There are a lot of ethnic restaurants around ranging from Indian, Jamaican, Chinese, Bolivian, African, Thai, Vietnamese, as well as quick eateries.
Fuquay – Varina - Small town but with nice downtown. Housing are cheaper and within the radius of RTP.
