How to get around in the Triangle

The best way to get around the Triangle is by car. Land is abundant and free parking lots are available in most of the places except downtown area where parking is limited. Even so there are plenty of parking garage and spaces available for about $4 – $7 per day.There are 3 main highways connecting the Triangle, I-40 runs East – West , The inner beltline (I-440) and the outer beltline (I-540) which run in loops around the town. One can travel within Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill in approximately one hour or less.

Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program is also available free of charge to employees of registered employers within the Triangle area with some restriction. Check this program out from GoTriangle.org website.There are no subways in the Triangle area as of yet.

Buses: There are several lines of buses servicing downtown, students and employees of RTP area. The following are the bus lines.

  • Automated vehicle locations (AVL) and projected real-time arrivals for CAT buses can be accessed by visiting www.raleighrides.org.

Airport:

  • RDU (Raleigh-Durham International) Airport is a domestic and internal airport easily accessible from Raleigh, Durham and Cary
  • Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO) located in Greensboro NC (1 hour away from Raleigh). It is both an domestic and International Airport.
