Parks & Recreation in Raleigh

For those who love natures, there are parks and green ways accessible to a lot of communities. In 1974 a system of public recreational trails was created, including 22 trails covering 46 miles. In 1975, Raleigh was named the first “Green Survival City” in the country. Walking trails are accessible to many housing subdivisions. The American Tobacco Trail is a 22 miles conversion of rail road projects across Durham, Cary, Apex across Wake county.

Jordan Lake – largest lake in the area, is accessible by car within an hour from Raleigh. Free access and several activities are available for free or nominal fees. Check out our Outdoor page.From the mountains to the beaches. Raleigh is fortunate to be located in the middle between the mountains on the West and miles of beaches along the east coasts. There are so many beaches within 1-4 hour drive from Raleigh.

Mountains of NC is a great place to visit in the Fall. You will enjoy the beauty of the foliage and the serenity of the mountains. Mountain is also a good escape in Summer as well. Many cabins in the mountains do not need the help of Air conditioning to cool the house because the temperature is just right in Summer. Asheville is a major town in the West. It is quite a big town and is close to the Biltmore Estate which is the major attraction in the West. Asheville also has interesting Indian preservation that you can visit.
